Located 7 miles west of the Scottish capital, Edinburgh Airport is Scotland's busiest airport. The airport boasts scheduled flights to 53 cities in 16 countries, operated by 22 different airlines. In 2007 Edinburgh Airport overtook Glasgow International to become Scotlands busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers. The airport has been the busiest in terms of aircraft movements for a number of years now. Edinburgh Airport also has a very active cargo market, with some of the worlds leading cargo distributers basing aircraft at the airport. During the summer Edinburgh has links to most of Europes holiday hotspots, mainly operated by foreign based airlines. In summer 2004 the Edinburgh Airport recieved its first transatlantic scheduled service, with Continental launching flights to Newark. Since then Delta have also began serving the airport from JFK.
