Well, I got round to booking my forthcoming Dubai trip, going to be in Edinburgh and not Dublin at the time so will be leaving from EDI via Frankfurt with Luftie. Staying south of Edinburgh and won't have my car so bugger trying to get along to GLA via public transport for the direct flight!

Interestingly spoke to 2 of my old colleagues who work in the Gyle today and they are both going to Dubai in the summer, again both leaving via EDI and going via Frankfurt. Both live in Corstorphine and as both put it, "they couldn't be arsed taking the car through to GLA and prefer a quick taxi hop to their local airport".

There is quite a sizable amount of traffic between Edinburgh and Dubai at the moment (as told to me by friends in Dubai) and I wonder if a fair bit of this will continue to use EDI via European hubs. The bulk of inbound/outbound pax between Edinburgh and New York mostly bypassed the GLA service these last few years in favour of using their local airport albeit via London or a Euro hub.

I wonder if most airlines realise that the public transport from Edinburgh and Glasgow to each others airports is a total joke and the road infrastructure if driving is woefully inadequate?

What amazes me though is the amount of people I know from Edinburgh who do all their flying from PIK, mostly because of price but also because of Ryanairs in your face advertising. My father in law came over to visit me recently from PIK with Ryanair and actually drove past EDI as he didn't know you could fly to DUB from there!!!! icon_eek.gif

Most of my family fly on 2 or 3 holidays a year and have never flown from EDI ever including my father in 30 years of flying to Spain! Outside business colleagues I would say that 90% of my friends and family have never flown from EDI and always fly from GLA or PIK. I am talking maybe 30 people of between 2 to 5 flights a year who live in Edinburgh city itself! I wonder what the ratio is across the city!

I am surprised DUB doesn't have a Dubai service yet (hopefully it will get one before my next again trip in September as I will be in Dublin again).

Hypothetically, I wonder what GLA & EDI would be like now if say 5 years ago they were sold into independent hands? I am betting the variety of flights would be significantly greater than now for both. It always amazes me when BAA scare of budget airlines from GLA/EDI with high pricing yet look at STN and there is Easyjet at LGW as well. Apart from the very small regionals, every airport in Britain has at least one budget or low cost hub operation. Easyjet once said that EDI was to small a catchment for a hub and the Scottish market was in general to small. Why then are Ryanair doing so well at PIK? Easyjet seem quite happy to fly 18 return legs between EDI and London daily though!

My inital couple of line posting has turned into an aimless rant! icon_lol.gif

Booked my 2nd Dubai trip now, this one is going via GLA on the Emirates service from Dublin. Not been to GLA for a couple of years, be interesting to see how it is these days.

Been hectic lately and been living on the DUB-EDI Rynair and Aer Lingus services and also the DUB-STN Ryanair service. Got a huge wad of posts here to catch up reading, a bit out of touch on whats been happening.

The DUB-EDI services have certainly been chokka these last 2 months though, strange forthcoming Aer Lingus times though, would have like a morning service also.

Hope everyone is well. Bill, I did take that ESB position and have now racked up my 100th washing machine sale! icon_lol.gif

welcome back Oracle, although I must warn you that I am a former PowerCity employee (although contrary to popular legend, not the guy in the ad)!

In Dublin at the moment, actually, Working in a large building on Wood Quay for a couple of days... icon_wink.gif I came over this morning from GLA on a half full 737. Couldn't get the Ryanair flights I wanted - only morning returns were available tomorrow and Friday. I've had similiar experiences to yours on the EDI run. Have you been in bidness on EI recently - it's better than ever...

I don't think you'll be impressed by GLA compared to EDI when you visit - the Irish flights leave from a particularly crappy part of the terminal. It's nice to see people checking in for flights with their ghetto blasters though, you don't get that in EDI so much these days icon_lol.gif Don't go through security until you have to, there is a paucity of facilites airside. You could go and watch the big jets land if that kind of thing floats your boat of course. I noticed the CO flight landing this morning; looking forward to seeing it in EDI.

Hi Bill,

Fancy a pint tomorrow night then somewhere in Dub as I am in town just now as well. We can swap stories of our classic white good sales! icon_lol.gif

I am free from half 4 onwards tomorrow.

I'd love to Oracle, but my flight back is at 1855 tonight, so I was planning on getting the aircoach from O'Neills on Suffolfk st at 1630. I'll be back and have more time on Monday evening if that suits?

Monday is fine with me Bill, don't have to fly anywhere until Wed when I am off to STN. Hoping the DUB to Norwich service starts soon as I still do some work in Ipswich and getting there from STN is a real pain, the A120 is always gridlocked and to get the train there you have to go into London and back out again.
I heard a DUB - Norwich was meant to start this summer but not scene any sign yet.

Oracle - slight change of plans - I will be there on Tuesday. I'm on the last Ryanair back to EDI so should have time for a few scoops in the city centre after work if you are about. Does that suit?

Yip, thats fine. Not flying myself until the first STN service the next morning. Just booked another wad of EDI flights for the enxt few months, a mix of ryanair and Aer Lingus. I have a feeling that these are all going to be from the planet chokka as well looking at the current prices!
