Forth hovercraft trials to start

A three-week hovercraft ferry trial on the Firth of Forth is to be conducted in the summer.
The impact of the service on the estuary's wildlife will be assessed during the trial run, alongside its popularity with passengers.

It will link Kirkcaldy with Portobello in Edinburgh.

I hope this does well as it could be a useful alternative to commuters to using the congested Forth Road Bridge or crowded trains. I recall trial hovercraft routes operated on the Clyde in the 1960's. I thought hovercraft had largely died out as a species until I saw one beached at Starr Gate, Blackpool, last summer, then I saw another one beached at Glencaple Harbour on the Nith estuary when I was down that way in January. Would be nice to see them make a comeback.

a two week trial of this starts on July 16. Which is also my birthday, so you can save up and buy me a one way ticket icon_razz.gif

A return ticket's £9.50 at rush hour.

mother of god that thing will be wasted on the Forth. It looks like it should be trying to reclaim las Malvinas or beaching at Normandy.

That looks like the exact same Hovercraft that used to ply betwen Largs and Millport, an interesting form of transport that I've never tried and at £9.50 or whatever would be woth a go IMO.
