Full Version: GSM aircraft regs

Just a quick question of mine regarding GSM. Always bugged me why the registration on each aircraft dont match i.e G-SAAW, G-DLCH, G-CEFG, G-OTDN, G-GSPN, G-CDRA. Anyone know the reason for this, are they named after something? Airlines normally tend to put aircraft into some sort of sequence i.e Ryanair, EI-CSA, CSB, CSC right through to Z etc.

Any thoughts?

not every airline does it! large airlines like RYR and EZY have so many aircraft it makes sense to sequence them. but GSM dont have THAT many planes so it doesnt really matter. for example mytravel dont sequence their reg's either.

AFAIK they are all reg'd after various people etc... G-GSPN obviously after Globespan, G-OTDA Tom Dalrymple,
The G-CDxx aircraft named after company directors, and the others after high placed staff.

Yeah I didnt mean ALL airlines I said they normally tend to do it in that way. Reason I ask about globespan is because they have serials like GSPN, and OTDA which is pretty obvious they stand for Globespan and Tom Darymple, and with so many new aircraft arriving so far out of sequence with the next aircraft....

Hi, well if all of their aircraft are named after directors etc. why is their new 737-700 named after me:

All the G-CDxx a/c are standard issue in sequence registrations - including G-CDEG.

The 2 700's are out of sequence - G-MSJF and G-SEFC. The 2 new 800s will be in
sequence.
