Hey. This is my first post, so be nice. icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway I am 15 and very keen about aviation. And just wondering if there are any good spots at Glasgow airport for plane spotting. I know everything is so much worse after the attack. Any advice or that.

Thanks. Hope to be posting a lot more.

The spotters tend to congregate (at weekends, anyway) on the first floor of the terminal close to the Celtic Shop; one of the few remaining areas where you can still look airside from within the terminal. If you're also a photographer, you're better off at various points around the perimeter fence.

Yeah. Also, try Fred Seggies website www.saap.co.uk. Good info on alot of airports, I think including Glasgow, Prestwick, edinburgh etc.

I was 15 only 4 years ago! Stuck in and got myself a career in aviation I would never change. Stick in!

Thanks all for the replies.

Has Glasgow ever had a proper viewing spot?

Kris may I ask what you do in the aviation business?

Yes, C-130, as Kris says, stick in there! I was 15 when Glasgow Airport opened in 1966 and in those days when they had the spectators terrace, the airport was much more spotter friendly than it is now.
I can't offer any advice about the best spotting spots at Glasgow today as I moved to the Borders where my nearest airports are now Newcastle and Carlisle. I'd agree with Kris, though, as soon as you are able to do so, find yourself a casual job which will get you airside - I washed and valeted Loganair's planes at weekends which earned me a bit of extra pocket money and got me a lot of free flights in my teenage years. I was also a cadet in 2175 squadron ATC, and wanted to become a pilot. The late Captain Duncan MacIntosh of Loganair, who was also a qualified lawyer told me there was no job security in flying for a career and advised that I should do a law degree. Well I had never considered studying law, nor did I want to become a lawyer but the law degree gave me a good career in local government which has subsidised my aviation activities over the years - I eventually obtained a Private Pilot Licence and IMC rating and I also became involved as a volunteer with Solway Aviation Museum at Carlisle Airport.

Does anyone know the best way around getting into aviation. Really I was surprised at how difficult it was to find good jobs. Even duty free required 5 years minimal experience in other airports or/and another speakable language.

It may be hard to get into aviation at your age, however I know that BMI British Midland take on some school leavers every year throught their modern apprenticeship programme. Its usually in customer care and I have visited their operations at glasgow due to my work. I would visit their web site or write to them.

Or if need be.....dare I say it talk to your advisor at careers scotland....but I would contact them direct.

Thanks AMC. I will check out BKI's site.
