Trip report: Edinburgh to Dubai via Paris

I know that is the Glasgow group but as I stay in Glasgow and usually
travel from Glasgow I thought that it would be ok to post this report
here. When we book our trip to Dubai back in January we were offered
a few different choices of way to travel and it came down to price and
fights with Air France came in at £260 each. So on the Saturday we
drove through to Edinburgh for our 5PM flight to CDG. After a small
discussion with the meet and greet parking member of staff who said we
were late we headed off to the terminal. Check in was ok and after a
quick look round the shopping centre we boarded our Cityjet Avro RJ85
to CDG. Small snack of a filled roll, don’t take the Tuna, with a
cold drink and a hot drink we arrived in Paris after 1hr 45 mins. We
transferred from the plane by bus to terminal 2E and then walked to
terminal 2F. This terminal was a big disappointment as after your
cleared security there was only some very expensive duty free shops
and only one snack bar that skinned me 40 Euros for snack and drinks
for 3.

We got to our gate to see our A330-200 sitting waiting for us, we were
due to leave at 11.30pm and we were boarded in plenty of time but then
the fun started a couple of time the IFE rebooted a few times and
then all the lights went out and then back on. This happened a couple
of times and then we were asked to go back into the lounge. After 40
mins we are all back on again and we then left Paris 2 hours late.
The flight was full and the food was OK, but I hard ordered a kids
meal for my daughter and her breakfast meal was 100% better than our
offering.

At Dubai we docked at one of the gates in terminal 1 at 9am and then
walked to the security and bag pickup always a good sign on connecting
flight when you see your first bags arrive.

No photo for the flight out as it was too dark but here are some from Dubai

After two weeks i was back to the airport for our overnight flight
home, Dubai Airport departures is a laugh with the world and his dog
heading somewhere with almost 10 bags each. Best laugh has to be the
guy checking in a toilet pan to India. At Dubai before you check in
you have to put all you bags trough an x ray scanner and then check
in. Once we got to the gate after a quick or not so quick trip to the
duty free I noticed that our B777-200 had been replaced by a B777-300
and a logo jet at that. Once on the flight looked about 75% full for
our 0.30am departure for Paris the food on this flight was crap and
the IFE is not a patch on Virgin or Emirates but the flight was
uneventful and we were in Paris by about 5.45am.

We then had a bus transfer from 2F to 2E and the passport control before we went to the
gate for another bus transfer to the plane which was sitting on a very
remote apron. Again a Cityjet Avro RJ85 back to Edinburgh but we left
about 30 mins late, not bad flight up to Edinburgh with a small snack
and my daughter loved the hot chocolate. After picking up our bags
and car we were back in our house in Shettleston before 10am tired and
with full bags.

Cityjet were ok for a short flight. Air France was good but their
food needs some work to make it enjoyable. CDG was a big
disappointment and much poorer then my other choice Schphol.

Next trip Milan in September.

I know exactly what you mean - the catering in CDG is an absolute joke! I refuse to use CDG, and now connect through Amsterdam or anywhere else but CDG. When I was there in June I managed to find a place that sold lasagne and pizza, I asked for the lasagne, she asked me if i wanted it hot or cold, then dissapeared for 5 minutes when I said warm, only to reappear and tell me there was a microwave opposite and I had to cook it myself! They stlll charged an arm and a leg for it!

Even before security the place is a joke, the only airport I have ever been to that doesnt have bars and restaurants!

The Aberdeen flight always parks on the most remote stand they can find, meaning a rather long bus transfer, another reason to avoid the place at all costs!
